Simon Fraser- African
Drumming
Simon's love of drumming began at a very early age. He studied music
in Africa and found that whilst the rhythms were challenging to understand
and difficult to
play it was the most energising music to listen to and the most soothing to be around.
Simon has travelled to Africa seven times in recent years studying, performing and
recording in Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Guinea.
He runs annual music and cultural
study tours to the Ghanain coast for students to study traditional music
under the guidance of local drum and dance masters.
He established his Centre for West African Music and Culture in Melbourne in
1998 and continues to teach group and individual classes, as well as private
and corporate workshops. |
